Today I taught an Hour School class on running in Minimalist Shoes.  I’m certainly no running expert, but I’ve done it enough the wrong way to figure out the right way, not to mention having help from some great teachers as well.  This is a compilation of tips and tricks for new runners to help with the transition into running.

Every experience I have ever had and will have is fundamentally unique, and on the hand, oftentimes its not unique at all.  Imagine walking through a grass yard barefoot.  That experience is unique because you will never do that again at that time, that moment has gone.  But it is also not unique at all.  If you walk through the grass the same exact way twice in the same circumstances it would feel the same to you both times, so we would say its the same for all practical purposes.  We all draw upon and exist in the same objective reality, which is why different people often times respond identically to the same thing.

When it first happened I didnt know what to do or how to deal with it.  It was new and strange, unfamiliar ground.  I was anxious, a little nervous.  I felt overwhelmed, confused, in over my head.  I didnt quite get it, I didnt have the experience necessary to understand.

This is a post I have meant to write for a long time but I have avoided it because I simply dont like to think about those days.  This post is not satire and I am most certainly not making up the fact that I couldnt talk for the first 20 years of my life.  Stutters lead a massively depressed life somewhere between torture and exasperation, an existence so brutally and constantly negative that few things can compare.  This is because stutterers think just like fluent people but there is a mechanical disconnect between the thought process and ability to speak; a mind trapped without a voice.  Where and how this disconnect occurs is still a mystery but its just as frustrating for the stutterer as it is for the person trying to communicate with them.
